Vice-president Angeline Chitambo read the presidential speech in which she said the labour organization will continue with its fight for a Poverty Datum Line based salaries.
“It is with heavy hearts as there is nothing to celebrate given that there has not been any meaningful respite to the suffering, disarticulation and pauperization of the working class by the Inclusive Government since its consumption in February 2009.
“Since our goal for PDL salaries for all workers was not realized, we shall continue rolling out and activating national actions to demand consumer driven-indexed earnings,”she said.
Chitambo said the Concerned ZCTU Affiliates will never be cowed down by politicians in its quest to fully represent workers in the country.
“As we stated long back, this labour centre will not be an appendage of any individual or political party hence all attempts by some political parties to extend their influence in the labour centre should be resisted without any apology as it is not in the interests of workers.Workers should be packaged, used and abused by selfish workers,”said Chitambo.
“Prominent labour lawyer, Rodgers Matsikidze, NCA chairperson Prof Lovemore Madhuku, ISO chairperson Munyaradzi Gwisai, MDC 99 president Job Sikhala, MDC deputy spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi among other invited guests, gave solidarity messages.
