We need more exchange programmes-NWAC
The ZEWU National Women Advisory Council has called for more exchange programmes and synergies with other women bodies regionally and internationally so that it will be able to exchange notes on how to improve women participations and rights at workplaces among other issues.
This was said by NWAC chairperson Joyce Masiya on the sidelines of ZEWU strategic planning workshop held in Nyanga.
A total of 12 NWAC members attended the workshop where they gave their input to guide the operations of the union until 2015.
“We want to have exchange programmes with other women in the region and internationally, so that we can learn from other unions how they are carrying out and improving women issues,”said Masiya.
“We believe that women must be bold enough to take decision making positions in labour unions and l believe that if they can get exposure they will get the much needed confidence,”she added.
Turning onto the just held International Women’s Day, Masiya said she was impressed with the turn out and good organization of the event.
“We are grateful that we managed to hold successful International Women’s Day Commemorations under the theme Gender Gaining Momentum.
As ZEWU,we managed to have the commemorations in Harare, Mutare and Masvingo which all were well attended.Women issues need to be promoted as stronger women create vibrant unions,”she said.
