ZEWU holds May Day commemorations in Triangle

ZEWU held a memorable May Day commemorations at ZINWA Triangle Office.Even though the celebrations at the company premises were initially met with resistance from ZRP details who wanted the event to be held at an open space, the intervention of ZEWU Acting Trustee who was also the guest of honour saved the day.

A number of employees from ZINWA graced the event despite the chilly weather.

Acting Trustee Mr Shotere read the presidential speech which came from Concerned ZCTU Affiliates head office.He in essence explained the origin of the May Day.He also had the opportunity to brief the gathering, the positions of the companies on 2013 CBA.

Workers lamented that they were getting salaries far below the Poverty Datum Line while bosses were living a luxurious life.

The vote of thanks was given by ZINWA Runde Catchment area manager Albert Mare who provided transport to ferry workers to and from the venue and also some cash.

The event was also attended by Young Workers’ branch, BWAC, ZESA Chiredzi workers committee chairperson and ZINWA Triangle sub committee chairperson.
