ZEWU has resolved that it will assist members who are unfairly suspended from their workplaces following threats of industrial action.ZEWU president Angeline Chitambo, two national executive members Tariro Shumba and Denis Mukoti and 132 workers have been suspended from duty pending hearings from different ZESA workstations.
Of the 132 workers who were suspended 71 are from the Northern region while 61 are from the Eastern region.
In a press statement, General Secretary Tambaoga Nyazika said:
“As ZEWU we resolved to look after the welfare of our members who have become casuals of the suspensions from work. The affected employees shall bring their payslips and attach their suspension letters to the union offices for assistance.”
The decision to assist suspended ZESA employees was endorsed at the ZEWU special executive meeting held in Gweru recently.
