ZEWU President Angeline Chitambo, was two weeks ago invited to Australia by CFMEU, a trade union that represents mining and energy companies in that country.
President Chitambo said the trip which coincided with CFMEU’s annual general council was an eye opener to her.
“CFMEU were having their annual general council meeting, so they wanted me to understand the challenges l was going through since my dismissal from ZESA.They also wanted to know about the challenges ZEWU was facing, where we needed assistance in terms of solidarity,”said Chitambo.
“They promised to pledge something to ZEWU and offer solidarity wherever needed,”she added.
President Chitambo said she had an opportunity to have an insight of how CFMEU was operating.
“I had the privilege to witness the launching of their advanced Applaunch website.I also learnt the way which their union is structured….they are a big union….interms of the executive set up its different from our own. Each executive member runs a particular district or regional presidency,”she said.
