The Zimbabwe Energy Workers Union has expressed shock by the sudden death of its member Sylvia Maphosa on August 1, 2018 during political disturbances which rocked Harare after the harmonised elections.
Maphosa was a staunch member of the union employed by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) in the human resources department.
She joined the union in 2003 and remained loyal to the organisation until her untimely death which shocked everyone who knew her as a humble character.
The union therefore calls for a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible for committing this heinous act are urgently brought to book and face the full wrath of the law without fear or favour.
In a condolence message to the Maphosa family ZEWU’s general secretary Martin Chikuni said the union has lost one of its principled member who will be missed by the entire ZEWU family.
The union’s youth chairperson, Christian Ranji said Maphosa’s death was a huge blow to all the workers at ZINWA because she was a motivator and related so well with everyone.
“She was my mentor and her death came as a shock. We are devastated. May her soul rest in peace” she said.
