ZEWU will join other labour organisations from ZCTU Concerned Affiliates in commemorating the June 6 commemorations.
On 6 June 1972 427 Wankie Coillery workers perished in a mine shaft after a gas leakage and traditionally, the day has been set aside to remember them.
The commemorations will be held in Harare and Hwange.
The event in Hwange will take place on 8June.
Said President Chitambo:
“We have decided to join our colleagues in commemorating the day as a sign of solidarity.We want to urge employers to take the safety of workers seriously.”
The theme of this year’s June 6 commemorations is Workers’ safety first, make June 6 a national holiday.
